Abstract:


The T2K Collaboration has recently published in Nature a measur ement indicating that neutrinos oscillate with different probability compared to anti-neutrinos. The result suggests CP violation in leptons, which might explain matter-antimatter unbalance in the Universe (through a process called leptogenesis) whereas CP violation in the weak interaction of quarks is not enough to cause it. Actually, the parameter accounting for matter-antimatter symmetry breaking in neutrino oscillation is the δcp phase (which can take a value from -pi to +pi) and T2K has disfavored almost half of the δcp range at the 99.7% (3σ) confidence level. I will present the new result by illustrating in detail the T2K experimental method and techniques, including crucial measurements for reducing the experimental uncertainties in oscillation analysis and evaluation of neutrino interaction cross-sections. The T2K method for constraining δcp phase enables sensitivity searches for matter-antimatter asymmetry using accelerator produced neutrino beams: I will put the result in perspective by discussing some promising techniques for measuring the δcp phase with future experiments beyond T2K.
