The Department of Physics and Astronomy “ Galileo Galilei”  (DFA) of the University of Studies of Padova (UNIPD) organizes the Doctoral Course in Astronomy.

It follows the excellence of UNIPD in Astronomy, started since Galileo Galilei.

The Doctoral Course in Astronomy of the University of Padova offers  PhD thesis which cover most of the modern Astrophysical topics, in collaboration with INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova.  A group of >60 staff astronomers are involved.

8 POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE, STARTING ON OCTOBER 1, 2017

- Four open positions are financed by the University of Padova;

- One open position is financed by Fondazione Cariparo;

- Three PhD grants are financed by INAF. These are reserved grants on specific themes: the candidate PhD student shall be aware that at the moment of the application, she/he shall EXPLICITLY EXPRESS the interest for one or more of the reserved INAF grants (see call for applications) to be eligible to get one of them.

These proposed projects shall not be considered as exhaustive.  Candidates may contact staff members of the DFA and INAF-OAPD for PhD thesis projects.

The admission exam is based on the curriculum and an oral exam.

The oral exam also includes a discussion on the general astronomical background.

The candidate can ask for a skype oral examination. The preference for oral examination via skype must be indicated in the application.
